Today, we’re walking—not running—into your inbox to share some information about the benefits of low impact workouts.
Sometimes when we achieve amazing fitness results, we tend to think that we must continue pushing ourselves to the max, that doing “less” during a workout session can cause us to lose the ground we’ve gained.
Not true.
In fact, it’s amazing what a low impact workout can do for you.
Try these five low impact exercises:
1. Half jumping jacks: Place your arms at your sides. Lift your left arm overhead and step to the left. Return to position. Perform the same movements on the right side. Repeat.
2. Standing oblique crunches: Place your hands behind your head and position your elbows out to the sides. Bend to the left. Raise your left knee to meet your left elbow. Perform the same movements on the right side. Repeat.
3. Squats: With your feet hip-width apart, squat downward toward the floor (pretend as if you’re about to sit in a chair) and then return to standing. Repeat.
4. Downward dog: Begin on all fours. Ensure that your hands are shoulder-width apart. Lift your knees off the floor and push back, straightening your legs as much as possible. Curl your toes and inhale. Return to the all fours position. Repeat.
5. Dumbbell side lunge: Hold a dumbbell in each hand and stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Lunge to the left, and allow the dumbbell to hang straight down between your legs. Perform the same movement on the right side. Repeat.

Remember, low impact workouts are certainly worth the try because you can give your body a much-needed break without really taking a break. Think of a low impact workout in this way: instead of running a mile, you’re walking a mile. You’re still burning calories. You’re still maintaining your fitness routine. You’re still, of course, knocking it out of the park.
